Reading at Lady Hawkins’ School
Our Mission:
At Lady Hawkins’ School, we endeavour to foster a strong intellectual curiosity and life-long love of reading, learning and independent critical thinking.
Our Vision:
We believe that inspiring students to read is a fundamental right. It underpins all learning and secures the personal development and success of our students.
We aim to ensure that:
- All students from every background and ability have the opportunity to enjoy an intellectually and culturally rich life at Lady Hawkins’ School
- Every student at Lady Hawkins’ School experiences the pleasure of reading, the joy of learning and continues to develop critical thinking skills, including functional literacy.
We also aim to:
- Promote a love of reading for pleasure through a knowledge-rich curriculum which incorporates both substantive and disciplinary knowledge
- Promote a love of reading for pleasure through wider reading opportunities in subject areas. These fully accessible opportunities will enable students to consolidate learning, deepen understanding and widen reading.
Our Values:
Excellence:
- Strive to achieve the best we can in all we do
- To inspire learning and leadership through reading for pleasure
- At Lady Hawkins’ School, we value the acquisition of knowledge and the quest for excellence through intellectual curiosity, creativity and growth, all of which is underpinned by a love of reading.
Pride:
- Be proud of being part of the reading community at Lady Hawkins’ School, celebrating our reading success.
Community:
- Work collaboratively and participate in a wide range of reading for pleasure opportunities within school and the wider community
- Share knowledge and a love of reading through local partnerships.
