LADY HAWKINS’ SCHOOL
Find out more about our Governors
The Governing Body has three core strategic functions. These are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
The board of governors operates at a strategic level, leaving the headteacher and senior colleagues responsible and accountable to it for the operational day-to-day running of the school.
Our Governing Body is made up of volunteers from the local community, parents and members of school staff. Each governor brings their own range of skills and expertise to the governing body.

I was brought up on a fruit and sheep farm in Staunton-on-Arrow and attended Lady Hawkins’ School a few years ago! After completing a medical degree in Newcastle Upon Tyne I have worked in various jobs in England, Guyana, New Zealand and Guatemala. Since 1998 I have worked as a GP in the Welsh Borders. My three children currently attend LHS and are the fifth generation in our family to do so. I believe in good communication and teamwork. I want to support the school in providing a broad and good quality education for all its pupils and for it to give them the confidence to achieve their aspirations.

I have lived in the area since 2013, moving here with my wife Charlie, a teacher in Powys, and 2 children. My eldest son is a student at Lady Hawkins’ and my youngest is at Kington Primary School. I am passionate about making their education fulfilling and varied with activities to foster creativity and ambition. I love music, film and the outdoors, which was the major pull in bringing us here to Kington. I work in Digital Marketing and enjoy being able to work with advanced technologies at work yet struggle to get a phone signal at home!
